Getting Traffic to Your New Blog

More Traffic means More Income

Good and income producing blog traffic often takes time so persistence, often a good income level takes many months of trying and evolving, and evolution pays in the end.

Getting traffic to a new blog takes time, but here’s what actually moves the needle, roughly in order of impact:

1. SEO fundamentals from day one

  • Target keywords with real search volume but low competition (long-tail phrases beat broad terms early on)
  • Write for search intent — answer the actual question someone’s Googling
  • Use tools like Google Search Console (free) to see what’s already bringing you impressions, then double down
  • Internal linking between your own posts helps a lot more than people expect

2. Pick 1-2 distribution channels and go deep, not wide
Trying to be everywhere at once (Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Reddit, TikTok…) usually means being mediocre everywhere. Better to pick the platform where your actual audience hangs out and post there consistently.

  • Reddit/niche forums: genuinely helpful comments with your expertise, not spammy links — this works but only if you’re not obviously self-promoting
  • LinkedIn/Twitter: works well for B2B or professional topics
  • Pinterest: surprisingly strong for lifestyle, food, DIY, design niches
  • Communities specific to your topic (Discord servers, Slack groups, subreddits) — be a real participant first

3. Guest posting / collaborations
Writing a guest post for a slightly bigger, established blog in your niche gets you both a backlink (SEO) and direct referral traffic. Cold outreach to niche newsletters/blogs works better than you’d think if your pitch is specific.

4. Build an email list from post one
Traffic sources come and go (algorithm changes, platform shifts), but an email list is yours. Even a simple “get new posts in your inbox” signup compounds over time.

5. Repurpose content
One solid blog post can become a Twitter thread, a LinkedIn post, a YouTube short, a Pinterest pin. Don’t write once and post once.

What to skip early on: paid ads (expensive before you know what converts), being on 6 platforms at once, and obsessing over vanity metrics like follower counts.

One honest note: SEO traffic especially is slow — often 3-6 months before you see meaningful organic growth. The blogs that “blow up fast” almost always had an existing audience or a very viral/timely hook.

Remember also, keep trying, if you get less traffic, try and narrow your focus, and it IS o/k to swap your subject matter as your own ideas change.
